Married with two horses, a mule and one cat! I live on the west side of the Valley; and every day I wake up, I’m greeted with the reasons we chose to make this our home – the mountains, the rural character of the west side’s farms and ranches, the wildlife and the open spaces.
Why did you want to become a firefighter?:
After working as a patroller and an EMT for Teton Valley Hospital and volunteering with Search and Rescue, I was looking for a new challenge and opportunity to help my community. I had been on numerous emergency scenes with the fire department and someone mentioned they were beginning a new recruit class. I decided to join and see what firefighting was all about. It was not long before I was completely sold on becoming a career firefighter. I found it was the combination of everything I loved about the other places I was working. It combined community service, intellectual challenge and the physical requirements of staying in shape to be ready to deal with whatever emergency occurred in our Valley. And after four years of working for the department, I can honestly say there is nothing that is as emotionally or spiritually rewarding as knowing you had an opportunity to help someone on one of their worst days, and that it made a difference.
